Did you know that Keelman customers aged 50+ can access a free telephone befriending service called Silver Talk?

We spoke to Silver Talk Coordinator, Christine Fletcher at Karbon Homes to find out more.

Hi Christine, what can you tell is about Silver Talk?

We know that being lonely is hard. If you don’t see many people very often, you can miss having a good chat and a laugh with a friend. That’s what Silver Talk is all about. It’s a service provided by Karbon Homes. We match people who are over 50 and would like to have a friend on the phone with a trained volunteer who rings them for an up to 30-minute chat at the same time each week.

You can talk about anything – the things you want to do, what you’ve been up to in the week or something you might be worried about.

If people need some extra help we can also put you in touch with the right services or support that can help your life be that much better.

Who is the service for?

It’s ideal for people aged 50+ who may feel lonely at times and are able to communicate over the phone.

It’s a quick and easy process to get signed up. One of our team will be in touch to complete an application form with you – it asks for a few details about your health and hobbies and interests, so that we can match volunteers and users appropriately.

We get emergency contact details in case we are unable to get in touch with you and there is cause for concern.

We also find out when the best time to call you would be so the service is convenient for you.

How do people sign up?

If you would like to sign up or know somebody who would benefit from the service, please contact us by calling 0191 223 8662. You can also apply online at www.karbonhomes.co.uk/silvetalk.
