Our Story

We are committed to providing housing opportunities to people with a variety of needs, be that long-term rental or help getting on the property purchase ladder.

We have a proven track record of building new homes for rent and shared ownership to meet the needs of local people. So far, we have delivered over 300 homes with the help of our partners and use of new-build grants and empty homes grants from Homes England. In addition to investing in our existing homes, we continue to expand our development programe.

We are a small but ambitious team who understands that a home is made of more than just the bricks and mortar, so we work proactively with our partners to support our customers and communities to thrive.

These partners include Karbon Homes and Homes England, and we have previously worked with delivery partners such as Esh Group and Keepmoat Homes. We are always interested in engaging in new partnerships that could improve services to our tenants and create new homes.

Our History

Keelman Homes is established.
Construction of Kibblesworth regeneration commences - 147 homes built, 95 for affordable rent and shared ownership.
5 home refurbishments are completed as part of a new Empty Homes Programe.
20 new homes are constructed at the Lonnen, Ryton - 6 homes were sold on the market, 14 were kept for affordable rent.
29 new homes are constructured across 5 separate developments in Gateshead, at Pelaw, Ryton, Felling and Deckham.
7 new homes are constructed in Dunston on our West Park development.
6 new homes are acquired on the Valley View development in Low Fell.
27 new homes are delivered on High View, Blaydon.

Our Track Record

New build houses: Our new build properties have won LABC awards for their high standards in technical design and construction. These homes have formed part of large-scale village redevelopments as well as small ‘pocket’ sites in urban areas

Empty Homes: We worked alongside Gateshead Council to bring empty homes back into use. These properties were brought in-line with Keelman Homes’ specification, with safety and comfort as the key priorities

Properties with solar panels: We aim to provide tenants with warm, sustainable homes. As a socially responsible business we are committed to manage the environmental impact of our operations and help reduce fuel poverty for our tenants

Of our homes are EPC C or higher: Our median Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for our portfolio is 81, which is a band B, so we are well on our way to achieving our target. This is also above the national median rating for England, which is 68, a Band D. We are investing in all of our properties to raise their EPCs to at least a C by 2035.
