Residents brave snow to see estate’s future.
Residents on a south Gateshead estate braved the recent snow to find out more about £14m of future developments planned for their area.
Drop-in sessions for people living in Kibblesworth were held at the village’s Millennium Centre to give residents an update on almost 150 new homes being built.
The first new bungalows were recently completed on the estate and over 300 residents were invited to view plans of future building work, which includes family homes.
Keelman Homes, a subsidiary of The Gateshead Housing Company, will build the majority of the new homes with site constructor Keepmoat.
The Gateshead Housing Company’s Chief Executive, Bill Fullen, said: “We have already made improvements to thousands of homes through our Decent Homes programme.
“We are now literally building on our previous success, through this first scheme to bring new affordable homes to Gateshead for generations to come.”
The scheme, also supported by the Homes and Communities Agency and Gateshead Council, will create 81 affordable new homes to rent, plus 54 for sale.
Thirteen homes will also be offered for ‘intermediate rent’ – a unique and flexible way for first-time buyers to get on the housing ladder.
Residents who came to the event also got to meet the on-site team, view samples of kitchen and bathrooms for new homes and find out more about a career in the building industry.
Anyone with queries about future improvements should email the housing company’s Birtley housing office or call 0191 433 6102.
