Kibblesworth homes up for top housing award.
The Gateshead Housing Company and its subsidiary Keelman Homes have reached the finals of a prestigious award scheme for their work to regenerate Kibblesworth.
The company has been shortlisted from more than 240 entries for the ‘Excellence in Housing Finance and Development’ award in the 2011 UK Housing Awards.
Stuart Macdonald, editor of Inside Housing, said: “The quality of the award entries rose again this year so even to get this far is an amazing achievement.
“In the face of some really stiff competition, The Gateshead Housing Company and Keelman Homes have shown they are performing at the highest level – well done!”
Bill Fullen, Chief Executive of The Gateshead Housing Company, said: “Our commitment to going just beyond the ‘bricks and mortar’ to help improve Kibblesworth for generations to come will hopefully stand us in good stead when the award winners are announced.”
The £14m regeneration of the village, which is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency and Gateshead Council, will eventually create 81 affordable new homes to rent, plus 54 for sale.
Thirteen homes will also be offered for ‘intermediate rent’ – a unique and flexible way for first-time buyers to get on the housing ladder.
