Keepmoat to build Kibblesworth homes.
New homes will be built at Kibblesworth estate after Keelman Homes appointed construction firm Keepmoat to regenerate the area.
Keepmoat will redevelop an 11.4 acre site at Kibblesworth, in the south of the borough, for Keelman Homes – a subsidiary of The Gateshead Housing Company.
The current prefabricated ‘Airey’ properties (see photo above) – which were built after the Second World War – will be demolished.
In their place, 92 new rentable properties and an additional number of homes for sale will be built at the site.
Local residents were consulted about a number of proposals for homes in the area, and had representatives on the panel that chose Keepmoat as the constructor for the area.
The Gateshead Housing Company’s New Build and Regeneration Manager, Peter Smith, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with Keepmoat, who are currently delivering our Decent Homes programme in the Central and West of Gateshead.
“Our panel felt that Keepmoat’s plans for Kibblesworth, along with their excellent track record, made them the best candidate for the job.”
The housing company hopes to receive a decision regarding the planning application early next year and work on the estate will hopefully begin around March 2010.
