Members of Keelman Homes Board were on hand recently to welcome Kibblesworth tenants to their brand new homes.

Board members joined The Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Michael Hood, to visit residents in the first of 150 new homes being built in on the estate.

During the visit they got to meet one resident who had moved in to a ‘temporary’ home on the estate almost 60 years ago.

Keelman Homes, a subsidiary of The Gateshead Housing Company, is currently building the new homes with site constructor Keepmoat.

The £14m scheme, also supported by Gateshead Council and the Homes and Communities Agency, will create new family homes and bungalows to rent, plus additional homes for sale.

The Gateshead Housing Company’s Chief Executive, Bill Fullen, said: “The Board of Keelman Homes were delighted to meet tenants at first hand – and see their wonderful new homes.

The Kibblesworth scheme is one of a number of major projects in Gateshead to be supported by the government’s Homes and Communities Agency, which has allocated over £12m to the borough over the past year.

Gateshead Council also contributed the land and additional financial support to enable the scheme to go ahead.
