Festival of fun heading for Kibblesworth.
Residents in a south Gateshead village are being asked to get involved in a celebration of their history and community this Saturday (1 October).
The Kibblesworth Festival is being organised to allow residents to remember the village’s past as well as its £14m future of over 140 new homes being built.
The free festival, which will run from 11am to 3pm, is being organised by The Gateshead Housing Company in partnership with a number of local groups and organisations.
Activities will include a treasure hunt with a Wii Fit as top prize, falconry, archery, face painting, funfair rides and games.
Bill Fullen, Chief Executive of The Gateshead Housing Company, said: “As well as being involved in this major programme of new homes being built we are also committed to improving entire estates and communities.
“We are hoping that as many residents as possible will get involved in this weekend’s festival to remember the village’s past, as well as looking forward to its very healthy future.”
The event is also being supported by the housing company’s subsidiary, Keelman Homes, as well as Gateshead Council, local councillors, Lamesley Parish Council, Kibblesworth Millennium Centre, Kibblesworth Primary School and a number of other local groups.
The £14m regeneration of the village, which is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency and Gateshead Council, will eventually create 81 affordable new homes to rent, plus 54 for sale.
Thirteen homes will also be offered for ‘intermediate rent’ – a unique and flexible way for first-time buyers to get on the housing ladder.
