Kibblesworth families see brand-new homes.
Families in a south Gateshead village recently saw the inside of new homes being built as part of a £14m redevelopment of their estate.
The new family homes in Kibblesworth are the latest of almost 150 homes being built for Keelman Homes – a subsidiary of The Gateshead Housing Company.
Prefabricated 1940s ‘Airey’ properties in the village have been demolished during the past year to allow overall site constructor Keepmoat to build the new properties.
The scheme, also supported by the Homes and Communities Agency and Gateshead Council, will eventually create 81 affordable new homes to rent, plus 54 more for sale.
Thirteen homes will also be offered for ‘intermediate rent’ for first-time buyers to get on to the housing ladder.
Families who came to the drop-in event saw the first of the almost completed four-bed homes and how their new kitchens, bathrooms and other rooms will look.
The Gateshead Housing Company’s Chief Executive, Bill Fullen, said: “We have already made improvements to thousands of homes through our Decent Homes programme.
“We are now literally building on our previous success through this scheme to bring dozens of new affordable homes to families and older residents for generations to come.
“The feedback from local families who saw these modern, energy-efficient homes was excellent and we hope that the first families will be able to move in to them by the end of February.”
